Ancient Ostia offers the opportunity to walk along the streets of an ancient city of Roman period similar to Pompeii but much more closer and more easily accesible from Rome (it takes just 30-45 minutes to get there).

Ostia served as a naval base, protecting Rome from any invasion by river. It also functioned as an administrative and a warehousing center for all goods arriving to Rome through the port of Ostia.

The town had 60000 people and you will discover private houses as well as public buildings such as a theater, cafeterias and bath of 2000 years ago. The ancient theater is still in use today for summer performances. We will see backeries and mills and we will also discover the Roman public toilet: funny - all together in this very private moment of life!.
